Sunday Morning…The Calm Before the Storm

Alrighty, I’ve been slacking with the posts lately, so I thought I would do one on this glorious Sunday morning cause there’s been a few things on my mind. Let’s get right to it, shall we? 1.) Note to NBA players and owners: Nobody even remotely cares that you’re not playing basketball. Look, I love watching and talking about the Sixers, but I can live without them.  You know why?  Cause there is still college basketball to be played where the action is faster, there are more exciting turnovers and the players actually give a shit. NBA, you could…

Week 7 NFL Picks & Fantasy Miracle Predictions

Don’t ask about the picture. I typed in fantasy miracle and Google brought me back about 100 pictures of boobies. I’m not going to say no. It was now my duty to find the best boobies I could. Well, the World Series is living up to all of our expectations. It’s boring and nobody cares except St. Louis and Texas. A lot of good pitching (yawn) and little offense has me switching the channels faster than anyone’s business. 3 things are saving me this fall. Football is one. The other two are Workaholics and Parks and Rec. The fact…

In West Philadelphia, Born and Raised…..

Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith are now partial owners of the Philadelphia 76ers. That. Is. Awesome. A midst all the terrible basketball news, a small shining face peers through the clouds and allows a bit of sunshine in. That face is Will Smith’s. Welcome to the 76ers, Mr. Smith. Last year, Adam, Brendan (former, much lazier writer), and I attended a Sixers/OKC game and sat courtside. We were within feet of Andre Iguodala, Coach Collins, and many others. This year, if David Stern permits, we’ll be sitting court-side once more, but this time along with Will Smith….

Stick to What you Know

“You can see through this stuff sometimes, and you know Al Davis just died, obviously had a great career and did a lot of good things but it seems when people die sometimes, the narrative…you know ‘They’re doing this for Al Davis’ and all that, and in this case, I really doubt the Raiders had that much of a connection with Al Davis” –Bill Simmons, B.S. Report 10/14 with Al Michaels. “He used to come out to practices and say hi,” Boyd said. “I came in as a free agent, so I didn’t think he knew everything about me,…

A Sad Memorial for Philadelphia Sports

It’s been a rough week. I chose not to write during the NLDS, and now, I really regret my decision. I thought I would jinx the Phillies on their path to victory, and although I’m a terribly superstitious person, I probably did the exact opposite. Instead, I blame an infamous squirrel. A damn squirrel?? Games 1 through 4 were exciting, nail-biting, thrilling displays of baseball. We lost Game 5, however, in a dull, boring, anxious, disappointing, uncomfortable defeat. Our bats were silent. Our players looked like they were attending a funeral. It might have been the most anti-climatic ending…

Week 5 Picks, Phillies Misery, and Bromances in the Outsiders

Last night was a swift kick in the nuts (or a Moleman football to the nuts). Me and Stef hadn’t even GOTTEN to the bar yet, we were listening to the Phils game on 1210 and already the Cardinals had scored a run. “Uh-Oh” I said (In so many words). We reached Buffalo Wild Wings, where we had watched the Phils oust the Dodgers back in 09 (or 08…I can’t remember which), and so we thought that it would give us some good juju. Well the place was PACKED and we couldn’t get a table (which I needed after…

Phillies/Cardinals Pre-Game Thread

I’m not great at championship speeches, but I think something needs to be said. It’s Game 5 of the NLDS tonight, and the thought of the Phillies not advancing to the Championship Series has me worried. The Cardinals are hot. They basically had an impeccable September to surpass the Braves in the wildcard, and now they are carrying a heavy momentum into the playoffs. Tied 2-2, our boys will try to fend off the daunting weight that comes with having a huge target on your back. We look vulnerable. It’s easy to say we assembled the “Miami Heat” of…
