Week 3 Picks: The Cabin in the Woods

If you haven’t seen The Cabin in the Woods movie, do yourself a favor and check it out.  Like Thor, which I wrote about a while back–and which also coincidentally stars Chris Hemsworth–it is the perfect 3 star movie. But be warned before you check it out: it’s not really a horror movie. It’s more in the vein of Scream, a kind of half scary, half funny movie (although it may even be 75% funny, 25% scary.) The stars of the show are Richard Jenkins (who is awesome in everything, especially as one of the dad’s playing poker in…

Jayson Werth Predicts the Future

Remember back when Jayson Werth signed with the Nationals for bazillions of dollars (7 years, 126 million), and all us Phillies fans crushed him for selling out his soul to head to a non-contender with no chance of ever winning the NL East? Yep, me too. Seriously though, is Jayson Werth that much smarter than every Phillies pundit and fan? Did he correctly see the future of the Nationals while we all laughed away, cheese and steak rolling down our collective chins? Yes, yes he did. Check out the picture folks. He calculated it on his magic abacus. I…

The Jump to Conclusions Mat

The thing I really love about the NFL is how every week seems to change our opinions of a team. In week one, the Patriots crushed the Titans and it looked like they were a lock to make the playoffs and contend for the AFC crown. Meanwhile, the Cowboys took down the defending Super Bowl champs and looked like they were on their way to a showdown with the 49ers in the NFC championship. Meanwhile, the Cardinals beat Seattle–but nobody put too much stock into that because it was the Seahawks and they were certainly going to get clobbered…

On The Streets of Philadelphia

It was a pretty big week in the world of Philadelphia sports. I have recently moved to the upper-east side of Elkton, Maryland (which makes it sound like a city…. trust me, it is not.) The reason I mention this is because anyone who lives in Maryland gets 0, count em, 0 Philadelphia sports. It’s absolutely horrifying. Literally twenty seconds North, or twenty seconds South, I would be privileged to have all the Sixers, Flyers, Eagles, and Phillies I need…. legally. Now, I have to resort to some alternative methods in order to watch my teams. Trust me, those…

Whether you’re a casual football follower, a die-hard fan of your city’s team or a fantasy football guru who just got NFL SUNDAY TICKET from http://www.direct-ticket.net/ for non-stop Sunday NFL action, it’s always good to see new players staking their spots among the league’s best and cashing in on their years of hard work. Here are 5 breakout players to watch for this year: 1) Eric Decker – Last year, Decker racked up more than 600 yards receiving and 8 TDs in a Tim Tebow-led offense. He looks to follow up his sophomore campaign with a much better year…

BINGO!

1.) Ok, so I just read the Yahoo! Sports story on Drew Rosenhaus and how he may have swindled lots of NFL players out of money by getting them to invest in a project run by his buddy, Jeff Rubin. You know what that investment opportunity was? A rural Alabama BINGO PARLOR. Oh me oh my. What in the world are these NFL players thinking? Look, don’t get me wrong, it sucks that they got suckered out of their money, but if a buddy of mine came up to me and said, “Hey, you wanna invest a million dollars…

First Fantasy Football Draft of the Season: A Review

My first fantasy football draft of the season came and went last night, and a lot of knowledge was gleaned from the event. Most importantly is this: Don’t schedule a draft for 6:45 East Coast time when you have players participating on the west coast. Out of 12 teams, only 5 showed up, and one of those was in about round 12 when he had already drafted most of his team. With that said, I am going to do a round by round review (up until round 10 when it’s more or less a crapshoot), showing you both my…
