My Fantasy Team is ‘The Evelyn Lozada Headbutts’

Sometimes I wonder how successful the NFL would be without fantasy football. I don’t ever recall being that enthralled with the spectacle until 2004 when I first started playing the game. There was finally a reason to cheer for players that I would never care about otherwise. There’s something unique about it, in that fantasy baseball feels like a job and is NEVER satisfying, even when you’re winning. Fantasy basketball I have yet to try, but I imagine that it’s on the same level of fantasy golf. Slow, unrewarding, and probably a bit too nerdy for public perception. Fantasy…

Christmas in August

1.) Ohhhhhh Happppy Day!  I have waited so long, repeat, SO LONG for the Sixers to trade Iguodala that it is almost unbelievable that it finally happened. And the fact that they got Andrew Bynum back in return is fantastic. I am ecstatic about this move, in every sense.  Look, if Bynum doesn’t re-sign, then we got Iggy’s terrible contract off of the books and it frees tons of cap space for 2013. If he does re-sign, then we have a fantastic center. Win-win. Now, as for Iggy, he seems like a nice guy and all, but he was…

Iguodala to Denver, Sixers Get Andrew Bynum & Jason Richardson

Dwight Howard gets sent to the Lakers Woah. This is an absolutely insane NBA trade. Late Thursday night, the Denver Nuggets, the LA Lakers, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Orlando Magic agreed to a four-team trade that involved multiple players. The most notable was Dwight Howard being traded from the Orlando Magic to the Los Angeles Lakers. The second most notable trade was definitely the 76ers acquiring Andrew Bynum and Jason Richardson for Andre Iguodala. The 76ers have been drafting nothing but small forwards, so to imagine that we’ve somehow landed the second best center in the NBA is…

The Mid-Point Olympics Recap

I don’t watch television often. My television may be on, but I’m usually doing something else in the foreground. I multi-task. I can absorb the information while I’m dedicating myself to something else. That’s why sports are so great, especially baseball. I can truly half-ass paying attention and still get 100% of the highlights at the opportune times. The Olympics have been a true gem. NBC, MSNBC, OSC (Olympic Sports Channel? There’s 2 of em, actually), Bravo, there has been an onslaught of sports broadcasting that run practically 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It’s been delightful….

It’s A Pretty Long Season

You got that right. Phils fans, including myself, were quoted earlier in the year saying, “It’s going to be a long season.” It is, man. We suck. The worst part about baseball is when you do suck, you suck for a long, long time. The season is long. The games are every day. The sucking is continual. Let’s find some light at the end of this tunnel, shall we? I attended yesterday’s game against the Diamondbacks and finally, after 5 home games, was able to catch a victory. A walk-off victory. Ryan Howard was so due to get a…

Fast Food Protests, Lame Olympics

I didn’t even realize any of this Chick-fil-A nonsense was going on until I got a text from the Wolfman telling me a Facebook joke about the whole situation. And that makes me happy, because this is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. 1.) Well, actually, it was the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of until I read that Roger Goodell said that he thinks football should be an Olympic sport. Let that sink in for a moment. WHO WOULD WE PLAY? America gets Gold, Silver AND Bronze? However, I would love to see the Botswana squad…

Phelps, The French, & Snoop Lion

Congratulations Michael Phelps Well played sir. Nineteen medals is a pretty impressive feat. It is interesting how the coverage started negative yesterday mid-afternoon, when Phelps won silver in the 200 butterfly, to downright glowing after the 4 x 200 free relay. It is a fine line these days. Sure, Phelps isn’t duplicating Beijing, but a gold and two silvers is not bad for a guy who doesn’t even like swimming. The French are Coming Everyone was pretty steamed at the U.S. Men’s swimming team for losing to the French in the 4 X 100 free relay, and equally upset about…
