If my writing today could emulate one song, it would be the end of Nas’ “Made You Look” when the beat cuts out and he delivers line after line of ill lyrics that would make the average man vomit on themselves in sheer sickness. It will be fast and hollow, yet profound and everlasting. Here we go.
It’s been a few weeks since I’ve been able to sit down and write, mostly because of my new employment that has me mentally drained by the end of the day. Not that there hasn’t been much to write about. The Phillies are grabbing old guys that are injury prone or just about dead. It makes sense to solve the problem with more problems. The Flyers are riding high despite the injuries to some of their key players. I got Club Box seats last week. Good times.
So when people starting shooting me texts like, “When is the head rush gonna post something new?” or “What does the head rush think about this or that?” my first response is usually, “Shut up. Stop being a sarcastic dick.” Then, like the Grinch Who Stole Christmas, my heart swells up with joy at the fact that people embrace something (albeit casually) that I am a part of. It feels good. It’s nice to know that people are out there reading. It truly means a lot.
You know what else means a lot?
The Sixers coasted through their first of two pre-season games, beating the Washington Wizards 103-78. That’s 25 points. At one point it was a 37 point deficit. It was mystifying.
Mark my words, the Sixers are in the playoffs again this season. Have the schedule shortened to 66 games helps the Sixers immensely. We practically have the exact same roster as last year when we finished out the season 38-27. It’s almost like they never missed a beat. We had one of the best benches in the league during the 2010-11 season and now some of those guys are earning starting roles. It’s almost become somewhat of a problem on who to pick for the job because of all the adequate candidates.
That spells trouble for those teams with new rosters that haven’t had the extended off-season to allow time for training and minicamps. I’m looking at you Clippers. Everyone knows Baron Davis was the gel of that team.
You ever watch that DirecTV commercial where the guy keeps pausing scenes from the movie while walking into the different rooms in his house? It’s covered in snow and some fella is fighting wolves with a torch? Did you ever wish it was an actual movie on television not a commercial?
Well, you’re in luck my friend.
I catched a trailer for Liam Neeson’s new movie “The Grey” which is based off of a huge plane crash that results in him and several other passengers being stranded in the wilderness in below freezing weather. While I can’t guarantee that 90% of the movie will be him fighting wolves, I can guarantee that the trailer will be 90% Liam Neeson fighting wolves. There’s a scene where he tapes a broken bottle to his hand and then attempts to fist fight a wolf. Count me in.
As for this week’s NFL, I figured the Saturday game was coming up, so I’ll pick that.
Seems the spread is Cowboys -7. There’s also a front page story on how the Buccaneers may give Tony Romo trouble and that people should be weary of his upcoming performance.
I’ve heard this story before. The one where everyone thinks the Bucs can do something, and then they don’t. The Bucs are a huge disappointment this year. Although it cringes me to say so, I’ll take the Cowboys -7 please.
That’s it folks. Don’t say the car is topless….
