SIXERS IXERS IXERS!!!

February 14, 2011 Randy Neil

This week has been sweet. Super sweet. The 76ers, after starting the season 5-17, have since had an above .500 record for the past 3 months. They have been f-in crushing it.

Let’s recap the week shall we?

Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday. That was a blowout. I haven’t seen the 76ers win by 34 in… oh… I don’t know. Never. The universe must be collapsing upon itself because the 76ers never win a game in blowout fashion… especially not to a team fifth in the division.

Very next night the Sixers lose a pretty close game to the Orlando Magic. At this point I wasn’t expecting much, so to even hold their own with the likes of Hedu Turkaglue (is that how you spell it?) is amazing. I’ll take it.

Friday, back in Philly, set to play the San Antonio Spurs. Like a fine wine, they seem to get better with age. Manu Ginobili’s bald spot now acts a distraction to opposing players trying to make a fast break, often leaving them blind crashing into the stands. There was no way the 76ers were going to hang with the 45-9 best record in the NBA, coming from the Western Conference, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, San Antonio Spurs. But they did! They friggin’ won!

Now, many critics have already noted that the Spurs did put up a meager 71 points and had their worst shooting percentage of the season. Some would even further press to point out that the very next night San Antonio managed to score that same figure in one half, stressing that the Spurs simply had an off night shooting, and typically a team with little talent like the 76ers were handed a fluke. To which I say : 76ERS DEFENSE RUNNING CIRCLES AROUND YALL SUCKAS BABEEEEYYYYYY!!! DOUG COLLINS FOR COACH OF THE YEAR!!!

It’s just a good sign. Typically opportunities like this are often squandered, leaving a sad and lonely basketball fan to hope for off season and next year. Well.. guess what? It’s next year.

The 76ers have now won 5 of their last 7, and 4 of their last 5 on the road. Huge improvements from the beginning of the season, and signs of things to come. Greater let downs to be had in the play offs. :D

Jaguar’s Hail Mary Makes Me Regret Life

November 15, 2010 Randy Neil

I’m convinced that football is the hardest sport to bet on ever.  Aside from Brendan’s miracle 1/5 run mid-season, the NFL and Delaware Park Casino have teamed up to destroy any and every hope and dream that people could possibly muster, including mine.   Trying to hit a 3 for 3 parlay is like trying to get a pick-up poker game together.  There’s always one guy who fucks you.

This is my major beef with football.  It always has been.  Here’s a sport that plays at most 25% of any other sport’s season, so basically anything can happen.  Almost every year there’s a team in the Superbowl that doesn’t belong there, but basically if you win 4+ games in a row in the NFL, you’re almost a lock for the play offs.  Christ, the Jacksonville Jaguars are 5-4.  HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN??  How is Kyle Orton an awesome QB???

What’s even worse is that trying to find the games on TV, my options were the Browns v. Jets, and the Vikings v. Bears.  Now, I have no interest in watching the demise of Brett Favre, because almost everyone could see this coming.  Favre clearly doesn’t give a shit, and I didn’t really want to watch Jay Cutler try to keep his helmet on either (seriously, where is that man’s chin??) so I opted to watch the Browns v. Jets.  I’m always a big underdog fan, and everyone kept hyping up the Browns to maybe make a play off run (I’m looking at you Ditka) but of course in huge epic let down fashion, they take the Jets deep into overtime after a few remarkable drives, and then 3 DBs blow their tackles and let the Jets “win” another game.
