Start the Season with a Sweep

It’s been a great start so far. The Phillies swept the Astros in a 3 game series this weekend, Domonic Brown had a very encouraging walk off HR after a 2 run 9th inning rally opening day, and all our pitchers looked incredible, as they should. The offense that everyone worried to be too old still managed to drive in plenty of runs. Somehow… things are right with the universe.

But let’s not get too carried away. It was the Astros, and there’s still 159 games left.

We finished up the 2011 fantasy baseball draft yesterday. I’m happy with my picks. I’ve got a hell of starting lineup (Clayton Kershaw, Jered Weaver, Roy Oswalt) so hopefully I can win the strikeout category almost every week. I’ve also got two of last year’s best closers in Matt Capps and Heath Bell. My big concern is Bell might not have enough games where the Padres are leading to give him a save opportunity. I have no faith in the Padres.

My offensive production could go either way. Most of my players are old. I got Vlad Guerrero, Derek Jeter, David Ortiz, Paul Konerko, Scott Rolen! God, I’m feeling worse and worse about it as I write this. I almost grabbed Chipper Jones too to complete the old saggy ball cycle, but opted against it.

We’re gonna post the league standings, matchups, teams, and all the other fun stuff for the entire season, so be sure to check it out!

I leave you with the awesome Roy Halladay/Carlos Ruiz MLB 2k11 commercial. Where can I buy that pillow???
