Matt Cord Returns as Sixers PA Announcer!!!

Last year, Matt Cord was promoted, of sorts, in the Sixers organization and no longer held the title of PA announcer from all of the Sixers’ games in Wells Fargo.

Tom Lamaine filled the position during the very short 2011-12 season and basically destroyed it. For 2 reasons:

1) Tom Lamaine compared play-by-play announcing at a basketball game to weather reports on the weekly news
2) Matt Cord was probably the coolest PA announcer in the history of basketball

Seriously, it was so awesome hearing Matt Cord scream “AAAANDREEEYYYY IGUUOOOOOO (pause) DALA DALA DALA DALA!!!” during home games. He announced with such enthusiasm. It was even more hysterical when he mumbled the opposing player’s name.

The Sixers held tryouts for Matt’s job but ultimately gave the position back to Matt Cord (I’m assuming because of demand.) The man had Facebook pages dedicated to his return.

People were upset at the Sixers for hosting a tryout only to end up giving the job back to Matt (I’m looking at you Crossing Broad.) I say, I don’t give two shits because he truly was the best man for the job. It doesn’t hurt to find if out if anyone might actually be better than Matt. I suppose some of us new that it isn’t physically possible to yell better.

I had the chance to run into Matt Cord last season at a Sixers game. Besides politely greeting him, my only question was, “Are you aware you have Facebook pages dedicated to you returning to announcing?” He laughed and said, “Yea.” TRUE STORY.

Haha, either way, I’m full of glee!! Yippieee!!
